Questions about LOST?

All of the characters who were once on the island were sent to purgatory (or the ones we saw flash sideways's of/were in the church, right?) What did Jack, Claire, Boone, and Hurley do to end up in purgatory? I don't remember any of them sinning so wouldn't they just go to heaven? Well I guess Jack was a drunk.. but the others?
